Camping and picnic samovar
Tea brewed with water boiled over a wood fire is an essential part of picnics and camping in Türkiye. A wood-burning copper samovar runs on dry wood you can easily find outdoors and needs no electricity.
Below are our models ordered by how easy they are to carry. Before you set off, always check whether lighting a fire is allowed where you are going.

Choosing a samovar for camping and picnics
- Weight and size: if you drive and carry it a short way, 5 litres is the most practical.
- Removable parts: on the 7 and 10 litre models the fire base (on the 10 litre the base and the tank) comes apart, which makes carrying and emptying ash easier.
- Group size: for big camping groups, the 10 litre model with two teapots gives long, uninterrupted tea.
- Teapot: models with the teapot included (e.g. the 5 litre with teapot) mean fewer extra pieces to carry.
Safe use outdoors
- Set the samovar on flat, stable, non-flammable ground and clear dry grass and leaves around it.
- Watch for sparks in windy weather; keep it away from tents, branches and anything flammable.
- Never light the samovar without water and never use liquid fuel.
- Before leaving, make sure the fire is completely out; do not tip hot ash onto the ground or into a bin.
Frequently asked questions
Which samovar is best for camping?
For a few people, the easy-to-carry 5 litre models; for large camping groups, the 10 litre model with two teapots and a removable fire base and tank.
Can I take a samovar to a picnic area?
It depends on the rules of the area. In Türkiye fires in forests are only allowed at designated fireplaces, and parks and picnic areas have their own local rules. Ask the site management before you go.
What wood goes in a samovar?
Dry, thinly split wood gives the best result. See our guide to the best wood for a samovar.
